IKEA help - credit cards and carrier bags

Hi Guys, I'm planning a trip to my local IKEA (when I say it's local I mean about 200 miles away!!). I seem to recall something about having to buy carrier bags so in true MSE style (and thinking about the environment) I plan to take my own bags but I can't quite remember if they charge for using a credit card to pay - was planning on using my Egg Money card for 1% cashback but will probably just use my debit card if they are going to charge me - does anyone know if they charge for credit cards??

IKEA does charge for using CC's.

IKEA bags are very strong and last an age. I have no need for carrier bags and don't even have to bother recycling any as I've been using the same 3 IKEA bags (at 50p each) for around 5 years. I use them for general recycling and grocery shopping. My entire months groceries fit in two IKEA bags.

I hope the rain stops for you :D

Don't forget to pick up your free Ikea family card, you get free drinks in the restaurant and other offers.
    Every little helps :rotfl:

The big blue bags are only 25p at our IKEA, at least they were a few weeks ago, and I thought they charged for any sort of card.

All credit cards incur a fee, but DEBIT cards are free to use.

Delighted to say that after 15 years of having to commute 100 miles to an Ikea we've had one just a 10 mile trip away for the last year... so am now a regular visitor - enjoying 95p breakfasts before 11am.

If you pay by DEBIT card there is no surcharge.

If you pay by CREDIT card there is a 70p surcharge.

They no longer give out carrier bags (nor the original paper bags from their initial days) but SELL the BLUE version of their instore YELLOW shoulder/hand bags. They used to be 50p, but are now 25p HOWEVER they have cheapened the design slightly - there is no longer the press-stud strip on each side (which is useful inside a supermarket trolley at Aldi/Lidl to hold the bag open/inshape).

The free IKEA FAMILY card is a sort of loyalty card, the immediate benefit being WEEKDAY ONLY free cups of coffee/tea in the restaurant. (It's free anyway before 10am at the MK one - they open at 9.30 for browsing, but marketplace only opens at 10.00. They also send you email vouchers from time to time - eg £10 off a £75 shop was one I had recently. They have them all over the Milton Keynes store so you can just pick one up and immediately start using it in store without signing up online and waiting 3+ weeks to receive it (or NOT in my folks case).

Their website doesn't list any of the sale stuff. Any idea of what bargains can be had?

I'm after a new bookcase, chest of drawers and wardrobe. Not gonna bother fighting through the crowds at my local(ish) one if it's just tat available.

I went round the Milton Keynes Ikea on Friday morning 10-11am - ie the second day of the sale - never known the store so quiet/deserted. Only spoiled by Ikea's usual policy of having far too few checkout staff - ie queues of half a dozen people as just 2 cashiers.

Very little stuff in the sale on that day anyway and few large reductions that grabbed my attention - very much a miniature sale by comparison with previous efforts. Sorry I don't recall any bookcases/drawers/wardrobe reductions - probably as I wasn't after any. Did notice some dining tables/chairs noticably reduced but that was all.

Don't forget to check the free "IKEA FAMILY" card - which offers discount prices on some furniture etc (details on the website).

Probably best looking in the GRAB IT NOW BARGAIN thread as SALE items s/be in that section.
