in a shop it doesnt have to be sold, common misconception
the contract isnt formed until the retailer accepts your payment, the retailer does not have to accept your payment and form the contract
    way it works
Shop displays an item (an invitation to treat)
you pick it up (you are offering to buy the product for x)
the shop keeper takes payment (they accept your offer to buy for x price, they can refuse if they want to)

so are you saying that in a shop they can refuse to sell you an item but if they do want to sell, a contract will be formed? What about once payment has been accepted? Can they also cancel a contract claiming a misprice like online retailors do?

once payment is accepted in a shop, they is the acceptance by the retailer for your offer and the contract is formed
so in a shop, they could then not go back once payment has been taken and say sorry that was the wrong price you cant have it because legally the item is yours, if they did would be breach of contract probably
online hasnt been tested in court it dont think, problem occurs because the law hasnt decided when the contract is formed, is it when payment is taken or delivery etc?
think some have in the T+C saying contract wont be formed until x happens giving them room to cancel if a misprice occurs

Personally if I go for what I believe is a misprice and don't get it I just shrug my shoulders. Sometimes you win sometimes you don't. Its not a conspiracy...just luck. As for amazon..sometimes some misprices do sneak through before they put a lid on the problem.
