When you are doing you Christmas and New Years Shopping -
When asked by the shop assistant shall I put the receipt in the bag say no.
I have learned the hard way.
I left my bag in Town.
When I retraced my steps I found that an unscrupulous person had taken the bag and got a refund on the items I had bought. As I had paid cash there was nothing I could do.
Be warned and dont make the same mistake.

decency is lost on most people these days. Hope you have a good Christmas though

That's rubbish! I have to admit I try not to do this whenever I can however, it is difficult!
