Great post hugh. You've mentioned a lot of very valid points and we must never give up.
The one thing I've found to be true is that cyclists can mount a very strong lobby when they get together which is why I thought a specific cycling section here would be good.
I'm not interested in arguing with other road users, either here or out there. What I'd like to do is try and convert them. I know many will never, or cannot, ride a bike but maybe they can see the sense in safer cycling for their kids. This is about money, health and a better life.
When I was (much) younger I could cycle anywhere in safety. It was wonderful and kids ought to get that chance too. We need radical change, not so much for us, but for them.
There must be thousands of mums and dads who would love to have bought their kids a bike for Christmas but it just isn't safe so they get them xbox and playstation instead. What a shame. This is their childhood and they deserve so much better.
Yes, there are issues with cyclists to resolve many of which will disappear once we bite the bullet and segregate bikes from cars.
A mindset has to change. And unless we do something, nothing will.
