 thinking back, I changed my settings on mse. when I type in a quote, a smiley is in letters and words. can only see them when I preview or after posting. the setting I use also puts sada's cut and past apg's into lines for me. I don't have to press return to do it.OO that's weird - you can get smilies but I cant ??? Its beyond annoying.

 scroll down to miscellaneous options
 message editor interface
 change the setting to standard editor.
 you will now put smilies in as text when you click on them but WILL appear as smilies in post0
