Ok, step one... Before we complete on the house in Feb I need to set a 2014 OP target and sort out my sig. On the current house we have had odd months of saying "I need a break - let's do a last minute break and just OP less this month". With the new scary mortgage I want to avoid that!

    The new house...

We went round to the new house on Saturday to measure up for some extra furniture that we need to buy. (Reminder - we've exchanged contracts and complete on 13th Feb).

    Can't resist any longer - here's the photos. :D

[EDIT: Rightmove link removed for security reasons. Will post some photos when we move in]

That's what we've been saving/OPing the mortgage on our current house for. :D

I've got so into OPing in the last few years that I'm struggling slightly with the extra furniture we're buying for the new house ("That's £500 that we could have OPed by!!"... etc....). We've set ourselves a limit of what we can spend initially though. Beyond that, anything else we need will be saved up for (though that'll grate even more when the money could go on OPs instead).

Less than a month to go. :D Till we'll have a terrifyingly large mortgage.

Wow that looks amazing - very grand! Looks like you have a great plan! Don't worry about earning less than OH - I used to by quite a lot and now I've overtaken him :D
He thinks this is very funny and enjoys telling people he is a kept man (not actually the case but amuses him!!)

It won't look as grand when we move in. The conservatory's going to have nothing in it at all for at least a few months. We're not buying an American fridge-freezer imminently (they're so expensive!), so there's going to be one normal 60cm width under-counter fridge in that enormous hole in the kitchen. Oh, and we don't have a piano. :rotfl:

Vendors are taking most of the curtains too, so beautiful heavy-weight made to measure curtains will soon change to ready-mades from Dunelm Mill. :)

I've gone the opposite way to you. I used to earn significantly more than OH but escaped to a much lovelier but lower-paying job.

I must chase our mortgage life assurance application though. I hate the fact that if something happened to OH then I couldn't afford this mortgage by myself. Never been in that position before and it doesn't feel good. :(

I have just caught up with your diary and wanted to wish you all the best with your OP plans on your new (and very beautiful) house.

You are doing now what DH and I are planning, pay down the mortgage on this house with a view to buying our forever home in a few years time.

I used to earn more than DH but he earns more than I ever did now :)
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

    It certainly can!

We got the mortgage on our current house down from £100k to £35k in three and a half years. That was mainly the result of me earning good money so I can't claim to be anywhere near as dedicated as a lot of the MFWers on this board. Still, we could have spent the OP money on cars and holidays and didn't. :money:

Good luck on your journey. Whether you're OPing to become MF, or with the aim of upsizing, it all feels worthwhile when you reach your goal. :D

Maybe we won't have mini teapots after all... ;)

It's not as bad as it looks. The estate agent must have turned every single light on and then used their flash, as it really isn't as cream as it looks. It's pretty neutral, but the walls and carpets are definitely a fairly strong beige rather than cream.

Except for the master bedroom where the walls are a very, very pale pink which MrTeapot hates. I had to promise to paint the bedroom in order to get the house. :rotfl:
  • WOW, lovely house....

Quite fitting that they have hidden what looks like a teapot on top of the cupboards above the fridge in the kitchen.... though I don't think its a pink teapot... can't quite tell.

Well done. i'm sure you will love it and alll your hard saving (OPing) over the years will suddenly all be worth it.
