How do I get my smilies back?

Options
I seem to have "lost" my smilies ... when I try to insert them, just get the URL and no piccie. Something to do with the settings I presume, but don't know where to start.

Can someone advise please.

Thanks x

hi mimi, might not be this but that's what happened when I updated to IE 11 last month,
none of the smilies/quotes would work & I had to
    go back to IE10

    here if it helps..

Smileys not working on MSE since IE11 installed/ PLEASE IGNORE as sorted now (multipage.gif1 2)

Thanks f**fly, but I'm on IE8 and can't upgrade on my (ancient!) computer, so can't be that. I'm mystified ...

My smilies stopped worknig when I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1.
I managed to get them to work by copying and pasting, then after a few days they suddenly started working properly again.

Sometimes this site plays up for certain users for no apparent reason but other wise I have no useful advice to give you other than try again after a few days to see if the problem has healed up on its own.
I married my cousin. I had to...
    I don't have a sister. :D

    maybe check your settings,
if you go in your user profile to
    'Edit Options'
click on & scroll down to
    'Miscellaneous Options'
& see if it has the
' Enchanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG editing '
    in the box

that happened to me quite a while back & had to make sure that was in the box
(thanks to Fermi for that one)

might be worth checking just in case x

Thanks fire**fly - already done this and settings are fine here. Perhaps they'll spontaneously come back soon - hope so! x
