Last year I did all the cooking for 3 people. I did a soup as starter and roast turkey for main but we filled up on soup and no one ate the turkey. That's why this year I was going to be different and just do main.
However my brother is joining us this year and wants a full 3 course meal for xmas.
The main course is going to be roast lamb and all the trimmings.
Pudding will be xmas pudding and xmas cake.
So what starter goes with roast lamb?

I'd go with something light and easy to prepare in advance; Jack Monroe did this pate for the One Show and the foodie tasters thought it was delish: http://agirlcalledjack.com/tag/jack-monroe/
Or you could do a prawn cocktail with marie rose dressing http://www.food.com/recipe/marie-rose-sauce-91120 although personally I prefer it made with half hellmans, half double cream and tomatoe puree rather than ketchup0 -
No reason why you can't do soup. A pea & mint one would be nice preceding a lamb roast. Just don't serve huge bowlfuls. A ladle each in a small bowl is plenty. And limit the amount of bread available. Good luck, sounds lovely“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
