Opening an Ulster Bank account when living in England

Hi
Has anyone tried to open an Ulster Bank current account when at the time they were not living in NI?
If so was it easy enough to do our did you come across any issue linked to not currently having an NI home address?
Years ago I banked with Ulster Bank, when I moved to England I changed Lloyds and then to various English banks over the past 20 years. As you can now do most banking online these days and as I expect to end up living back in NI in the next few years. I thought I might try and apply for a new current account with Ulster Bank. The terms and conditions state that you need to live in Northern Ireland if you want a loan or an overdraft but with regards to banking you just need to be resident in the UK.
I filled out the application online. At the end of the application it said something positive, I can't remember what. It did say that they would send me a letter by post asking for a signature and some further information.
A couple of days later the letter arrived asking for a certified copy of a passport and an original utility bill. They also wanted a signature on the application form. All of this I posted off yesterday.
The covering letter says " As soon as we receive your signed application and any supporting information, well complete our final checks and confirm your new account details."
Has anyone else got this far only to be told no you don't live in Northern Ireland so we don't want you as a customer?

I've been through this myself but, as I explained on another thread, I fell at one of the hurdles because they made a mistake on the printed application form which had been done over the telephone. I corrected the mistake by hand and signed the correction. When they received the form they phoned me and told me they couldn't accept a handwritten correction. It was put to me that I would have to go through the entire process again. I declined on the basis that a correction signed by me should be acceptable to any bank and if such a small issue was going to be an issue it didn't bode well for the future.
I understand they had a branch in London which may be why they can accept GB applications, although that might not be the case.
The other thing of course is that, if you have an RBS or Natwest account it stands to reason you might be able to operate like me. I'm BOS and living in NI but I use Halifax for my local banking. They provide me with all the services I need at the moment including deposits and withdrawals direct from my BOS accounts.
Would it suit you to operate like that? Would it be worth finding out of either RBS or Natwest would allow you to operate your account through Ulster Bank? Don't worry, you'll get all the data blackouts with them too because I believe the problems have actually been with the RBS computer system?0 -
The good news is, we have moved on and we do have the likes of barcleys, nat west, Lloyd's,Santander, halifax, nationwide etc0

Step away as quickly as possible. Do not open an Ulster Bank account. Well known fact they are trying to run it into the ground in order to close the bank.0

Why in the name of all that's holy would you want to open an Ulster Bank account? Have you not heard recent reports about them? It's falling on its ar5e. Avoid like the plague if you've any sense!
