Accountancy query

aha yes should the vat man come calling…
then thanks to my accountants who did not claim back 6 months services prior to registration because
and i quote "can you prove rent on premises, telephones and accountancy fees contributed to sales, post registration".
This was the answer when I queried why they had not claimed in my first vat return… (and have not claimed to date) so should he come calling he owes me a few!
You seem to know a lot about VAT, I wonder why you did not do your VAT returns yourself like most traders. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
ha yes I know about VAT now from bitter experience…0

Zygurat789, Suzzette appears to have learned more about VAT on this forum on another thread than her "accountants" know!
To answer Suzette's point:
1. On de-registrations it is the market value which counts. If I were your accountant I would keep a PDF of your quote ready to fire off at HMRC should the need arise, no way does "I will knock 20% off the full price" even meet the test of market value. Nothing can be better than a market offer unless the accountant is seeing fit to doubt the integrity of the dealer! I like to check values against Glass's guide but so far the values my clients have given me have been reasonable compared to that, so no problems.
Your accountant is not HMRC or a Court of Law, but is reasonably entitled to challenge his or her client where issues like falsifying of accounts or potential anti-moneylaundering apply. It is beyond belief he or she can think that could be the case here.
It is easy to change accountants. Even if your current accountant is foot-dragging or being awkward, it is still fine so long as you have a copy of the latest accounts and ideally tax return too.
In 2010 I gained 20 new clients when a local accountant died of a heart attack. By definition there was no handover and, although I could not find any records in her files for about 5 of those clients, there were no problems either.
Any decent accountant could do the same thing.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0 -
Yes I am going to walk in the New Year… and hopefully find an accountant who can deal with all this retrospective claiming that should have been done on my first return.
It is ridiculous that they should challenge Mercedes Benz's quote - which leads me to believe that intact it is me the client who they do not believe!
Either that or they are just plain inept?0
