Facebook follow/unfollow question.

Hi, I mostly enter Facebook App comps but often if the company is spammy (ie posts loads a day) or is a brand I don't have any interest in, I often opt to 'unfollow' them so I don't see their posts in my feed. So I'm still a fan of their page - just don't follow them if you know what I mean?!
My question is - can they tell which of their fans follow and which don't? Because I think they would be more likely to choose a following fan to win their giveaways?
