Tax Return - Car Benefits

in Cutting tax
I am filling out my first tax return and am confused.
Where it says "Pay from *** - total from your P45 or P60. Enter the amount before tax taken off" I have entered the relevant number from my P60 however if you click on the question mark it states the following:
If your employer has reported the amount of a benefit from your employment on your form P11D and taxed that amount through your payroll, you should deduct from the P60 or P45 figure the amount (before tax is taken off) reported on your P11D. You should enter the amount you have deducted from the P60 or P45 figure in the required fields as appropriate. Please refer to any specific advice issued by your employer if you are unsure what figures to enter
I have a P11D which states cash equivalents for my company car benefit and my health care which are adjusted via my tax code.....do I deduct these from that figure or not?

Is the car benefit taxed through the payroll? Ie added to your gross pay? If not, then it needs to go on.
(If its included in your paye code then it suggests it wasn't taxed through the payroll )0 -
Apologies but I'm pretty useless at stuff like this. It is adjusted via my tax code and I have never heard mention of it being added to gross pay.
So does that mean I leave my total figure as it shows on my p60 and then add the benefits on the next page against the relevant option. Car, fuel and health care - inserting the cash equivalent figure from my p11d.
If this is correct when I view my calculations it pushes my total earnings up by a large amount.0 -
Yep, enter it in the car benefit box and any other benefits in the relevant boxes. You've paid extra tax in the year already on it, so your PAYE code should have taken into account the total earnings figure.0

And the tax liability??The only thing that is constant is change.0
