Interesting, I can understand the insurer wanting to protect their interest but it is absolutely subjective.
I explained to a nurse last week that I probably smoke say 150 cigarettes a year, haven't had one since early OCtober, but she wS still insistent they classified me as a smoker.
It could of course be her understanding, and that of an insurance company would be different to teh nhs but the whole thing is odd. It equates smoking with an absolute addiction, like saying the only option for alcohol is teetotal or alcoholic.0 -

If you have smoked in the last 12 months then you are typically classed as a smoker.
Different insurers treat smoking differently. Some even quote a bit more on past smokers. However, your amount of smoking would not give you an enhanced rate as a "current" smoker as you dont smoke enough.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
