  • If you haven't been employed for two years (1 if hired before Apr 2012) they can sack you for pretty much anything except discriminatory in the eyes of the law.

Do you know who is stealing and if so have you not told the employer?

  • If you were a manager and thought one of your staff was stealing money and others knew but didn't tell anyone wouldn't you sack them all?
  • the manager is the one who told us someone is stealing

The manager is out of order to discuss disciplinary matters with all & sundry.

This is a matter for them, the HR manager (if there is one), and the member(s) of staff concerned only.

Do they need proof? No, any employer can dismiss for 'gross misconduct' for many reasons.

Proof is only needed per se if the employer wishes to take the ex employee to court for losses incurred by theft, rather than the Police and CPS taking the case, or if an employment Tribunal is called to prove the dismissal was fair.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
