zero hour contacts?

just been for an interview, the job is zero hours, min wage, I'm just wondering what people do if they only get 15 hours one week etc that wouldn't even cover my rent, I might be able to claim some benefit but I would have to wait a few weeks before it gets process and then the first 7 days are not allowed to be claimed for, anyone on one of these contracts? if so how do you manage with a drop in hours?

I had zero hours contracts before I went down insolvent route (other factors rent went up, travel costs on top of job etc), just wouldn't touch this contract type with a barge pole
I tried CAB but didn't get far to be honest (could have just been my branch at the time) and was recommended a benefit which I wouldn't have been eligible for anyways but essentially advice was look for another job
The creditor's DCA said they would have accepted £1 payments once at that stage, not sure about utilities as did all I could to keep it together, if I hadn't have had a DRO I suppose I'd have let the courts deal with it0 -
What's the difference between a Zero Hour contract and commission only in a sales environment?
If someone works for commission only, does an employer have to at least provide a minimum amount? Providing the employee with some kind of wage and the motivation to exceed for more.
Does someone who works for a zero hour contact get any form of guaranteed minimum wage / hours?
As I write this I think I know the answer....Zero hours sounds so god dam pointless. How the !!!! is the economy supposed to grow from Zero Hour contracts? If people cannot support themselves let alone have social life and spend their (not PDL) own money on products and services.0 -
Yeah I feel the same, even madder now that I have been on an interview for a zero hour contract, as up to now I had just heard them talked about on TV.
Yep they basiclly can give to 0 hours a week with £0 pay, if you work that yes they have to pay the min wage, they can't say it's commision only.
What has !!!!ed me off is they say in the job ad it's not min wage, when I go for the interview it suddenly becomes min wage and the hours stated in the ad were full time but on a zero hour contract, that changed too, I could get as little as one day a week...and this job is not cleaning, it's a job I would have thought £8minimum would have been the pay.0 -
Surely that is against some trade description act? Advertising one thing, but doing another.
Well hopefully the fact you are in a job will assist you in your search for a full time job with hours.
When I was career searching I found myself far more employable when I had a job against be unemployed. Though back then having a job actually meant you had a guarantee number of full time hours. I feel sorry for the youth of today. All there seems to be is Zero Hours rubbish and call centre dumb drone centres.
Jesus, listen to me I sound old. I'm only 27.0 -

that was my thought, get a job and carry on looking for a better one, it's just what do I do if I only get 10 hours one week? on min wage even a full week I can't really save much for when I'm on only a few hours a week.
I was even told that they have you come in and if no work they send you home, so I have to go to the expensive of getting to work which is £3.50 for a bus ticket, and then find out I have no hours that day, they could at least tell you the day before
I want the job but I just feel like I'm letting them get away with treating people like this.0
