Screen seems horizontally 'stretched'.

So I've re-installed Windows and all is working well on the Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop-thanks to all for your help-saved me at least £300.
One thing is irritating me though-the appearance of the screen seems 'stretched'. It's only a minor irritation, but if anyone has any ideas of how to remedy it, I would be very grateful. I have tried Chrome 'Settings' and the 'Control Panel', but can't find any way of making a difference.
Thank you.
Dawn.

try right-click on empty area of desktop, screen resolution and alter to suit. Also, you may find there's a better graphics driver for your hardware - if it's intel graphics there's a handy detection tool on their website which will either get you better drivers if available or at least identify who's chipset is in there.

you will have to allow installation of the add-on to use it (it's safe)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • Don't quite know what you mean, but have you tried changing the screen resolution? Right click on the wallpaper on the desktop and it should come up with screen resolution - you can have a play with that until it looks right.

Edit - great minds think alike :)

Sounds like computer is outputting a 4:3 screen resolution onto a widescreen - 16:9 or 16:10 monitor. What resolution are you running at?

Exactly what I was going to say, except to add that if you have the service tag code of the laptop (on a sticker on the underside usually) the Dell website can automatically detect what hardware options the laptop has and install all the right drivers and settings.

    Thanks for your reply.
My resolution shows a 'High' of 1024 x768 or a 'low' of 800 x 600-there is a sliding pointer, but I can't seem to get anything in the middle-it reverts to either 'high' or 'low'- at the moment I have it on 'high'.
The 'Display' shows '1. Generic PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter'. There is a drop down menu, but that is the only option on it.

Thanks -I ran the Dell program to install the right drivers etc yesterday, as part of my new set up, so I'm guessing they must all be okay.

I downloaded and installed the first one on the list and it has completely resolved the problem, which is great news. Many thanks Mobeer.
