When things like this have happened to me I've always contacted Trading Standards. In NI their service is obtained through Consumerline - http://www.consumerline.org/

My personal opinion is that GPDuffy is correct. The Sale of Goods Act 1979 gives you rights up to 6 years after purchase if there is a fault which wasn't evident when you purchased your phone. Which provide a set of guidelines here http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/sale-of-goods-act and also a helpline.

It's been my experience that most companies will deny they have a right to assist you, offer a repair or replacement but that a confirmation of your rights from Consumerline is often enough to get them to agree to uphold their side of the legislation. They might do so as a gesture of goodwill without admitting liability - fine, as long as you get your phone sorted.

BTW the last time I went through crap like this was last month. I was refused a repair on an 18 month old washing machine. It's been repaired FOC by the retailer. Two months before that I had similar problems with a 3 year old TV. I got my money back on that one, from the retailer.

So you go back to the whoever you bought the phone from and tell them straight. If they don't play the game with you then set Consumerline on them.
