Personal Statement - Advice Please

Options
Hi all
We are currently in the process of securing a mortgage through a broker (as per previous post). Given my current situation they have confirmed a decision in principle and we have put an offer down on a house.

To process the mortgage fully they have asked for a list of details like payslips, bank statements etc which I think is reasonable/normal practice.

They have also asked for me to provide a statement explaining how/why I got into financial difficulty. Has anyone heard of this before? I am more than happy to provide it but obviously don’t want to put anything in it which will make them run a mile.
I got into difficulty after a period of sickness when my previous partner left me…..do I just put this in the statement? Obviously I don’t want to lie but also I don’t want to hinder this or put anything in which I shouldn’t.
As I wasn’t expecting them to ask for this, any advice would be greatly accepted?
Thanks as always

SnS
Some debts are fun when you are acquiring them, but none are fun when you set about retiring them!!! :(

It's amazing how fast later comes when you buy now!!!!

  • I had to produce one as I had an IVA....just explain the reason(s) why you got into difficulty, how you got yourself out of it and lessons learnt so the same thing won't happen in the future.

Keep it short to the point with facts only.

  • Great thank you that's really helpful. I just wanted to check it was normal practice. I shall get to work this evening.
    Many thanks
