Is the default date correct? You want to make sure it is at aleast correct.

Definitely. Debt collectors like Cabot often mess around with default dates putting them as more recent than they should be.

If the default date is not correct you can ask us to raise a credit report query for you, if/once you've obtained your Experian report.

As has been said £2,500 is taking the ****! Do not pay this, the broker will also earn commission, personally I would not expect to see more than a few hundred fee charged, otherwise it would be dis-proportionate to the amount of work involved.

If you are going to go with Kensington, definitely find a different broker. We are going with them due to a default I have from late 2008 and our broker charges £295, payable on receipt of mortgage offer. As per the statement of fact paperwork he sent us on Kensington, they also pay him just over £900 in commission.

Going with Kensington is actually saving us a bit of money even thourgh it is slightly higher interest (than Halifax, who we were originally going with but got declined at full app stage) as they are paying our survey fee.
If it doesn’t move, and it should, use WD-40. If it moves, and it shouldn’t, use duct tape!

Hi Koneko..... Just wondering if the mortgage with Kensington went through?
My wife and I have a default that was registered in 2009, it is almost paid off but our broker has given us an offer with Kensington.
I work in the secured loan market and I know Kensington have an awful reputation - How were they for you?

Hiya, actually your timing is impeccable. Just yesterday we learnt that our chain (which got broken just after my last post) is now all back in place again and we are able to proceed. I've instructed our mortgage broker to get the ball rolling again so I can report back on how things go.

I don't know for definite that we are still going with Kensington until I catch up with the broker later today as it has been nearly 5 months and there may be a better option for us now.
