Sending Photo ID to claim prizes

Afternoon all (just),
Quick question, I've won a donation to charity from a comp on here so no actual prize to me which is fine but the operator is asking me to send photo ID (Driving Licence/Passport scan etc...). This makes me a little nervous as 1. Not sure why they need it if it's a charity donation on my behalf and 2. Sending that kind of info over t'interweb is something I would never normally do.
I don't want to deprive a charity of anything but just wondered if that's a regular requirement when claiming prizes ?.

Don't know why they need it but if you black out in MS paint any unique numbers so all they see is name/address/photo then there shouldn't be an issue.0
