Hi everyone. I have decided to write a thread in the hope that it kickstarts me into sorting my affairs out, and if im honest to off load whats on my mind.
I appologise in advance for the content in this thread as I have a lot to talk about. (Hope people don’t switch off)
My wife and I have been in a debt management plan for over 2 years with step change and everything has been going great until lately.
In march this year my mother suddenly passed away suffering a massive heart attack. In light of this nightmare my wife and I agreed to move house asap to be closer to our family and friends.
In deciding this I rented my property out in june after placing an ad in a local shop and my wife and I rented a house close to my Father.
In october I received a phone call from the police informing me property had been burgled and I later learnt that my property had been used for ilegal activity.
Aswell as this my wife and seperated and I was living with a friend paying him board.
To try and cut a long story short my house is a mess and iam unable to gather funds for repair,
currently over £1000 in arrears (2 months +) on the mortgage and in arrears on a secured loan against the house.
Our joint dmp has been terminated due to our seperation.
We currently have 105,000 debt secured on the property (house value approx £80,000) and a total of 29,000 unsecured debts which was in the dmp.
No council tax has been paid on my property since we moved out In june and there will be a large energy bill which I cant even think about.
Due to complete stupidity and the fact I was offered an upfront cash payment for the rental of my house I did not have a signed rental agreement in place and
Now fear iam going to be held responsible for the arrears.
My wifes earnings are approx £1000 per month after tax and I earn £1150 + commision which of late is very little.
Iam fully aware of the mess we are in however I have chosen to ignore phone calls of late and carry on with my life and try to focus on my little boy and work.
The main thing on my mind at the minute is bailiffs knocking on my wifes door, how realistic is this?
anyway i think i have waffled on for long enough and to those who have read to the end i would appreciate any thoughts or advice as i know i cant ignore this forever.

Do the bailiffs have your wife's address? You're not living at your own property and you've indicated that you've split up, therefore your wife is living at a different address to your rented property now.
Have the debts been to court and a CCJ awarded? If not, then bailiffs can't be involved until this has happened.
You need to go and have a chat with someone like CAB and get them to point you in the right direction.
The people that are going to come at you the hardest is the council tax, they'll take you straight to court, without even sending a LBA and then send it to HCEO bailiffs.
Make a call to your local CAB office, they're pretty useless these days, but should be able to put you in touch with someone that can give you good advice.0 -
@jouster @road_hog thanks for the replys. my full intention is to hand the keys back to nram and take things from there realy. Ive been writing to my creditors to offer token payments this week and intend to speak to the council tomorrow regarding the council tax arrears. the council are the only concern regarding my wifes new address as they have that from when she aranged the home move. thanks again.:cool:Embrace The Chaos!:cool:0

Hi - Well done, its a big step to fess up to all that. First thing you need to do is get FREE professional help asap. StepChange are amazing, call them! CAB are a bit hit and miss on the high street but they do have some great advisers/posters on this board.
wouldn't pay anyone jus now except my current rent and Ctax plus day to day living expenses. Read the stickies at the top of this board. Most of us on this board have been though the mill and survived and we try and support anyone else - without judgement.
