Rossendales - Bailiffs knocking for cleared debt

Just to let everyone know about a bad experience this morning.
Bailiffs came knocking to remove my car for a debt I had already cleared in the summer.
When between jobs I fell into arrears with my council tax and Rossendales sent a bailiff. I agreed to pay £50 per week to clear the debt but when I had got my balance down to just over £207 I was in a position to clear the remaining balance which was confirmed on screen for me at the time as I made all payments online via their payment facility, however there had been a glitch with the online payment system and my card issuer paid it 3 times!
I contacted my card issuer and they sorted the issue and my card was refunded the two payments that should not have been taken. However Rossendales disputed the fact that three payments had been made. It was a matter for the card companies to rectify as my balance was now clear.
Unfortunately Rossendales accounts department had not rectified this problem and they removed the two refunded payments from my account balance. The bailiff arrived today to remove my car insisting that it was my fault and I had not made my agreed payments.
After about an hour of running about like a headless chicken trying to prove my payments had been made I asked to see the statement of account he had with him. I added up all the payment amounts and showed him that his figures were wrong as he had stated that I had only paid £700 when in fact it showed that my payments had totalled over £1100. I contacted Rossendales myself by phone and asked them to go over the payment amounts to which the lady told me there was some kind of issue. I did not get a return call as I had requested. I had to chase them again an hour later to be told that the case was closed and the accounts department had now rectified the issue and there was a zero balance.
No apology, no nothing!!!
Extremely upsetting as I live in a rural village and no car = no job for me.
I also had to contact my council to ensure that they updated their records with regards to the outstanding amount.
Please be aware and double check all payments made, keep receipts. Get bailiffs to check all figures as clearly this bailiff had NOT!!

personally I would be asking the council (in writing by recorded delivery letter or e-mail)and Rossendale's to confirm in writing that you have a zero balance
I would also be asking (from the council and Rossendale's) for a full statement of your account history to include
date of liability order
liability order amount
amount that was passed on the Rossendale's
date it was passed over
date and amount of all payments
bailiff fees to include
the date of each fee
the reason for the fee
amount of each fee charged
name of all bailiffs that attended your property where the fee was chargedI am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites
If you are in any doubt please seek legal/expert advice help0 -
I will do that today. Thank you.
I did confirm over the telephone with both Rossendales and the Council but I had to phone the council and get her to logon to the Rossendales website to check as Rossendales said it was the Councils responsibility to contact them for confirmation.
I am so angry about it all. I know this was an unusual situation but it was implied by the Council, Rossendales, and the Bailiff that I was at fault (not paid) and there was nothing I could do but pay up.0
