You may struggle witha PPI claim going back ten years. The bank may use the Statute Barred get out that many of their customers use on them. Statute Barred works both ways.

I sent HSBC a really simple letter asking if I had PPI on a £10k graduate loan I took out in July 1999. They paid me the PPI with the usual interest within a month. Easiest thing I've ever applied for :T

Well done. But the fact remains that legally they can use the Statute Barred rule. They generally don't want the bad publicity and are especially sensitive over PPI claims.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I've found HSBC very easy to deal with when filling out PPI forms for others, and again when I've given feedback (which was logged as complaint) in the past.

Also, as the payments could not be amended or cancelled by me there were many times where they charged me for the failed payments, i was able to get some of these charges back but still i feel this is all part of the same plot, putting me in a position that has taken me 10 years to crawl out of and i still have the aftermath to deal with :(

Only thing you can do if you think something is not right is to complain to the bank, in writing, stating your concerns.

If they reject it, you can of course refer to the FOS.
