Anyone contacted by Solicitor re secured house loan

We have approached by a solicitors in regard to a secured house loan taken out in 1997 - saying that we were mis sold it due to the broker being tied to one lender and not getting us the best deal for the market.

We don't know whether to sign up with them as they want 35% +VAT or whether we can do it ourselves

Thanks for any help

  • You don't need them and it's doubtful it was mis sold. They're ambulance chasinng.

Why do you think it was mis sold?

You wanted/needed a loan and chose to go to a tied broker, who will have made their status clear to you.

You may well have got a better deal from a whole market broker, but you chose not to go to one.

    No misselling.

Chances of success = very low

Chances of ending up worse off = pretty high.

Did this solicitor ask for upfront payment? Did they offer no-win, no fee?

Does this sound too good to be true?

As mentioned, you had the choice to shop around, but didn't, therefore no mis-sale.

It's the same as saying I was missold my car, as a BMW5 would be cheaper to lease; that's all well and good, but I chose what I have (and didn't look at BMW), as I wanted something made in Britain.

I would be surprised if they were even solicitors. They sound like the standard claim management companies who follow the same free complaints process as everyone else but charge you a massive fee if your complaint (which, if they have their way, will be based entirely on things that are made up, but are still submitted in your name) succeeds.
