I can appreciate that you may be filling in a self-assesment form for the first time as a result of the new child benefit entitlement rules but we really do need a bit more to go on?
What aspect particularly is confusing you?0 -
thanks
I mean all of iti thought there may have been a 'fill in section x' with y out there somewhere.

Have you registered for online filing?
Have you difficulty in logging in?
What income do you have that causes you to lose child benefit?0 -
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefitcharge/ does anything here help?
Have you thought of paying extra into your pension to avoid losing CB?http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/sep/28/child-benefit-pension-contributions-higher-earners0 -
Hi sorry yes been putting this off, can i just add the Child benefit information? i mean leave out employment info (this complicates things as I have underpaid as PAYE)
There is a question do you earn over 50k? i mean thats all that is required right?0 -

From memory - I think that it says 'only fill in this section if your income is over £50000' That does not mean that you can ignore the rest of the form.
If you only have employment income it should be relatively simple. All that you require is your form P60 for 2012/13 and complete the form accordingly.0 -

thanks really appreciate the responses
Heres the rub they sent me a recent p800 saying i under paid by £xxx, this was worked out with a minus 'adjustment' amount (I guess from a previous over payment)
This under payment has been entered into my tax code already.
Now I enter the amounts from my p60 etc this results in
£yyy This is under payed tax (without adjustment) + child benefit
How can i add in the adjustment so it tallies with my recent p800? otherwise I will end up over paying as they are requesting a cheque for £yyy
im PAYE it should be so easy just to send them the child benefit surplus.
Cheers

P800s are often mistakenly sent out to taxpayers who are on self assessment. If a tax return is sent in, then a P800 should not be issued. But it often happens that the P800 is issued before the tax return is submitted.
You should fill in all sections of the tax return accurately, and I would suggest that you follow up the submission of the tax return with a phone call to HMRC to confirm that they are treating your underpaid tax correctly.November 2007 £570k 25 years - MF March 2033
