dilemma...

Ok so its a small one but is been bothering me for a while! I have four cats who I love ( NO way would I get rid of before anyone suggests it!) but I pay cat insurance for each and it costs just under £30 a month. I've made 1 claim, ever, which means I've been paying it for four years and paid about 1440 BUT if cancel it then am liable for any vet fees....in addition I don't have 3 of them vaccinated because they never go out so it seems pointless and am worried that this will invalidate the insurance anyway.
Am in two minds but is seems a waste but also feel its a bit of a security blanket. In theory I could use my CC if the worst came to the worst...Anyone experienced simular or have an advice?

Why dont you start saving the £30 in a savings account and cancel the insurance. That amount would soon add up and you would have enough to treat any problem that came up. You would just have to keep your fingers crossed that nothing happened in the near future but its probably worth the risk when you think of how much you have paid out so far.

I don't have insurance for my cats, I do put £20 a month in a random savings account though just in case of any emergency type things. Last year my boy cat ended up in the vets with a really badly infected foot (after fighting) He had a small surgery to clean it out, 2 nights stay in the vet, and a course of antibiotics. The whole lot cost £150, which is pretty good really.

If your cats stay in there is little point in insurance, they're unlikely to be injured fighting/climbing/ hit by a car and the chances of illness are reduced anyway. I'd ditch it.

Cats are individuals who have different personalities. You are just unlucky. I had a bad experience with a dog and I can honestly say from that I think that dogs are filthy animals and I would never have another. However, I do acknowledge that other people love their dogs and have much nicer pets than mine turned out to be.

Hiya, just a quick comment, three cats don't go out, one does, tha cat can bring illnesses such a feline leukaemia back into the house and infect the others that don't go out. Prob best to save the £30 and put it towards the vaccinations for the other three and then save the money per month safe in the knowledge that the chance of 3 illnesses and car accidents are wiped out. Hope this helps.
I have a pony and pay 10.84 pm for his insurance. i'm sure you could get insurance cheaper than you are paying now, check you haven't got them down as pedigree if they're not and three are covered as house cats.
If you don't have insurance with petplan they are offering cashback through quidco so may be worth a look.

Thanks pepys..will give comments some thought! It's one insurance that I worry about cancelling! I had a cat before who wasnt insured & it cost me thousands before having to have him put down - but not before he impregnated one of my cats...!!

    Hiya
I feel the same as you and considered cancelling but have cancelled the dog and the parrot insurance, but have decided to keep the cat insurance going as I have had around 3 claims in the past yr as our cat is a bit of a scrapper......I have started doing a savings acct only 20 amonth but will pay for anything that crops up for the dog and parrot, but if I dont use it will treat myself!
If your cat dosnt go out then maybe think of saving the monthy payment instead??

Doesn't any Insurance Company offer a discount for second, and subsequent, pets, or maybe a single multi-pet insurance policy?
