Can a mortgage expert help please?

Hello
I have asked my bank and a local building society, but they haven't been able to give me an answer.
I am in the very fortunate position of being a cash buyer. But that means I don't have the benefit of a mortgage company telling me if there is anything to be wary of.
The house I am interested in buying is built over an abandoned sewer pipe. The fact that it is abandoned means Thames Water would take no responsibility for its upkeep (records suggest it was a 6 inch pipe at a depth of around 1.5 or 1.6m) there are no building regs so if was removed there is no record of that. If there was a problem it would be the responsibility of the house owner if anything happened to it (its 30 years old).
Can anyone tell me if this property would qualify for a mortgage? (If I bought it I would need to move in a few years and the next buyer most likely would need a mortgage).
Thank you for your help.

Paperwork would be sent to surveyor and lender would take surveyor's opinion in establishing mortgageability, so you need to be talking to surveyors, not lenders.I am a mortgage broker. Thank you. I can see the sense in that, although the manholes are removed so there is nothing for the surveyor to see. So I thought a mortgage company might be put off by just the idea of it.0

As Kingstreet suggests, a surveyor is the person you need not a lender. Speak to them about the options available.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. It's the same as a mineshaft in the vicinity.
Each case on its own merits.
The surveyor will comment on mortgageability and future saleability.I am a mortgage broker.
