Firms that hide their company names when advertising vacancies?

I always wondered why my company never advertised themselves when they have vacancies, they almost always use an agency and even at that details of the vacancies are kept to a minimum I guess in order to avoid giving away details of the company.

I made a few enquires with co-workers are was told they have advertised in the past but no one applied due to the firms reputation. I did see them advertise in the local paper a few months back for a stores person and wondered why no one started, and yes no one applied. I find this shocking in this day and age where jobs are scarce that this happens, it really says a lot about the company.

I see a lot of firms on various agencies that do this, give away very little details, does this mean they also have bad reputations?

Details are normally hidden by agencies for competition reasons. They don't want people going direct and they don't want other agencies to send CVs or worse, try and undercut them and take the work from the company.

Also it may be a position where the previous employee is not yet aware they are leaving.
Although jobs are scarce at the mo it is also a struggle to find good candidates as good candidates are being retained.

No, they just don't want to take your calls or enquiries. They want you to deal with their agency directly which is what they pay the agency for.

If they then spent their time taking calls from candidates only to tell them they need to contact the agency, then they may as well have dealt with the position themselves. They only want to see the 4 great CV's, not the 100 one that are 'fine'.

If a company advertises with their name and no one applies there is the answer. A bad reputation, bad everything and people probably know about it and therefore do not apply

But using an agency is common as they maybe do not have the time to sift CV's and cover letters and or they don't want cold callers only serious applications.
