I bought the cheapest one in Curry's at the time, so no recommendation from me, but some advice:

If you have room for a full size then I'd get it, depending on how much you cook from scratch. Although the manufacturers specify according to no of place settings, realistically pans and dishes take up loads of space and they fill up quickly!

Have a good look at the ones in store and think about the practicality of the inside trays for your own needs. For example, I wish I'd taken my largets dinner plate with me when I went shopping as I never use that set now because the machine won't adjust to accomodate it.

Also, see how sturdy the cutlery trays ets are. Mine is plastic and is buckling already after 1 year because I use heavy cutlery.

    Dishwashers

No slimline DW were recommended as Best Buys.

    Reliability
Best: Bosch, Neff and Siemens - all 93%
Worst: Smeg, Indesit, Hotpoint and Diplomat - all 81%

We have a Bosch - our third dishwasher (inbuilt) and I have to say it's been the best one we've had (please don't break down now!)

Does the job and everything's dry when opened - I'd buy Bosch again

We bought a Bosch slimline about 7 years ago and it has been great, no problems at all. Normally, all of the daily dishes fit in fine but it can be a pain at times fitting everything in after cooking a big, special meal.... then I have to do two loads in the dishwasher!

    I have a hotpoint & its OK

My friend has a melei (sp?) & you can feel the quality just shutting the door. & it has a cutlery shelf right at the top, so you don't have a cutley basket stuck in the middle of the bottom.

Even if you decide not to go as expensive as this, have a look & see if any do the cuttley like that as I wish mine had it, loads more space to get your big oven tins in.

I bought a Bosch just a couple of years ago purely because they came out on top for the amount of water used. It has been great so far and it came with a two year warranty.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

    Hi,
I've had the same zanussi slimline dishwasher for 12 years now (basic model and nothing fancy) ..use it every day & never had any problems with it - its been a godsend and if it packs up tomorrow I will send it the great kitchen in the sky with heartfelt thanks !:A

But I would agree that if you have room for a full size then go for that.
  • If you are like me and don't mind doing a bit of research first, I can recommend a website called ukwhitegoods.com They have forums where you can ask repair men about problems you are having with dishwashers, washing machines etc.
It makes very interesting reading as the same names come up time and time again with the same sort of problems! It's where I go before I make a big purchase.
At least it gives you an idea of which ones to avoid and the guys are very helpful and knowledgeable - after all, they repair them all day every day!

    Hope this helps,
    CtC.
