Can't input password

I have an Advent 4211c with Windows xp. I cannot get into it, because my keyboard doesn't seem to work after a windows update. I have tried Microsoft's work around, but that doesn't work either. when I try to enter safe mode, all I get is as box with tech guy options which is ChkDsk, notepad, command promo or start the tech guys windows repair. what I really want to do is either use windows restore or remove my files before recovering.
does anyone know how I can do either of these things.
alternatively, is the another way to input my password (with a different keyboard for example) or log on without a passwrd

When it first begins to boot, hit F8 and go into safe mode. This uses minimal drivers so should enable you too use the keyboardThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I tried that but a tech guys box comes up with a few options but not what I want. I don't know how to get rid of that and go straight into safe mode0

For System Restore: If you can get into a Command Window (I'm not clear if that appears in your description of your 'Safe Mode" attempt) then type RSTRUI and hit enter - (and wait a few seconds).
You can also do that in the normal 'Run' box in bottom left of desktop. (if you could type in normal mode - which you can't - ......I'll just get my coat!)You can lose a loose goose.
You cannot loose a lose goose.
Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
or - Try using it - not losing it.

Find someone who can lend you a USB keyboard - plug that in and then boot up and see if that solves your problem.0

If they are using a USB keyboard already then unplugging & plugging it back in AFTER it boots can sometimes force it to reinstall the drivers. If that fails then try another USB portFind someone who can lend you a USB keyboard - plug that in and then boot up and see if that solves your problem.0
