Probably nothing that can be done about the situation but does seem to have negatively impacted her career by having a child, something we are told is not supposed to happen...

in utopia perhaps it wouldn't but we don't live there.

tbh I think women would be alot happier if they stopped believing the lie that they can have it all - I know I did

    Hi

In addition to this my wife does not intend to return to work full time and her employer does not have a great record of accommodating such requests. If they tell her that she has to return full time which would result in her resigning from the company, could the company insist that we repay her maternity pay??

    Any advice appreciated.
    Regards
    Robson

If it's the same "large telecoms company" I worked for then she would have to return full time for a year to avoid paying back additional maternity pay (unless that has changed recently). And I did find the HR dept quite disorganised for admin things.

Absolutely no chance of constructive dismissal - all companies are allowed to restructure for business reasons. She is not constructively dismissed - she still has a job at the same level.

Regarding the contact when on leave, I'm assuming from what you have said that your wife is fairly senior so the employer has probably assumed your wife would want to be kept abreast of what seems to be major changes.

leave package is pretty good with full pay for 6 months then SMP for 3 months followed by 3 months unpaid

Take the full leave and you are not even entitled to your own job back.
