Barclays partner finance help please.

Purchased a sofa from instyle by safeway in 2009 with finance from Barclays partner finance.

Sofa was sold with free 10 year spring and frame guarantee which was the deciding reason on purchase.

Sofa is hardly used and springs are popping through.

As instyle have went bust we contacted Barclays to see if they could help after the claims department messing me around initially they sent an upholsterer out to evaluate.

Upholstered advised myself that the sofa was poorly made and there was so much movement in springs that it was causing springs to burst thro leather as cage had broken, he also advised sofa was illegally sold as there were no fire retardant labels on it. He advised it could not be fixed as the entire spring cage and frame work would need replaced as would cause other issues.

Report was submitted back to Barclays who today contacted me as said they would refund is a goodwill gesture off £500 the sofa cost £2100

When I said this was unacceptable she counter offered with them agreeing to honour guarantee in full but would deduct £500 per year off usage leaving us with £100 or I cld accept he goodwill gesture off £500

She said I cld escalate it to a complaint or accept her offer but once I escalated the claim offer was off table.

I have escalated it but am wondering if I have any leg to stand on.

The reason we went with original retailer was the guarantee as I've been stung before and I would expect a £2100 three seater to last more than 4 years especially when it isn't used much.

Any advice?

Difficult to say to be honest, £500 per year seems to be a bit high to be honest. See what they say when they come back to you and come back on here. Its all you can do at the moment.

There may well be an ombudsman you could take It to if you still don't get the result you could expect.

The value of a 4 year old sofa is probably no more than £500, so the offer is not that unreasonable.
