Ham joint

Options
Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to post but you guys are always so helpful!

I need to buy a ham joint (fairly small but not too small) to feed two people and be used up before it would go off. This is as a gift to go in a hamper for a Christmas present.

I would like to get the best value and yet I knew my friend would also appreciate good quality and could be inventive about using up any leftovers in pies/soups.

Can anybody point me in the right supermarket direction for the best deal and quality?

I am also happy to consider making my own ham but have no idea how one would do about this?!

  • I got mine from Tesco it was around £8 and it's a decent sized one. I can't tell you the weight as it's in mil'a spare freezer along with the turkey and trimmings.

That's the standard price at Aldi and Lidl for 1kg joints.

I suppose it depends how big a piece of gammon you want. Most of those around at the moment are designed for big get togethers although it does freeze well when it's cooked.

I bought a small smoked gammon joint in Asda this morning, 750g for £4, it says 4 servings, they also do unsmoked. It was a butchers selection gammon roasting joint, its in the freezer until I need it.

I know its dearer to buy it this way but a large joint is just too big for me.
