I heard this on the radio but for those of you that are privilaged enough to get Radio Merseyside i wanted to share it.
Try reading in a Scouce accent.
A Scouce Christmas.
T'was the night before Christmas,
And all through the house,
Spread the beautiful smell of the old ladies scouce,
The stockings were hung on the black leaded grate,
For old Daddy Christmas and Rudolph his mate,
With me Ma in her pinny and me in me wellies,
We were eagerly waiting to fill up our bellies,
We polished the stair rods and dusted the mat,
We loaded the sideboard with this and with that,
Two crates of Guiness and a few bottles of brown,
For friends and relations that were coming to town,
A bottle of port and some aussie white wine,
Best biscuits; a bunloaf, and trifle so fine,
A bottle of rum from me Dads special stock,
Whiskey and ham straight from the dock,
Our presents were wrapped and hidden away,
We knew were they where but better not say,
New boots, new socks and a red woollen jersey,
We'll be togged up like tofts, the pride of the Mersey,
Me Mam said ok it's off to your beds,
With a wipe of our noses and scuff of our heads,
So me with the Po and our kid with a candle,
We'd trot up the dancers like it was to much to handle,
We'd be there awake and cover our heads,
And listen as the rest of the family went to their beds,
The light from the pub two squares on the ceiling,
We couldn't get rid of this wide awake feeling,
Then like magic I suddenly woke,
The long night had gone and our kid gave a poke,
Get up he whispered, sneak down to the kitchen see if he's bin,
I heard someone down there, the fire was on.
I peeked around the corner, yes he's been and he's gone,
Me Ma was so busy with meat in the oven,
Our kid came behind me pushin and shovin,
For this magic morning we'd waited all year,
And now that it had come, cor la it was the gear,
Our toys were scattered all over the mat,
Lead soldiers; a train set, and a fire bobbies hat,
The box that they hid on the back kitchen shelf,
Was a neat model Spitfire that you built yourself,
Our stockings were special, far better than many,
An apple; an orange, and bright shiney penny,
I realise now that me Ma bless her soul,
Had brought us all up with me Dad on the dole.
Looking back now on those years without sully,
They showed us they loved us, though they hadn't any money,
'Cos Christmas ain't trifle; pudding, and trees,
But it's parents with kids with smiling faces on their knees,
It's kids strutting around in bright new shoes,
Not turkey; wrappings and bottles of beer,
All you need is some wise men, who have travelled so far,
Some shepherds; a manger, a baby and a bright shining star.

Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

That's brilliant Sam, thanks for posting it. I'm not far from Liverpool and could read it in my head with a Scouse accent
I've printed a copy for my mum. She's originally from Manchester, but lived on the Wirral for over twenty years, and has lived in St. Helens for nearly forty years, so she has adopted Merseyside as her home
She'll love it. Thank you x0 -
Love it, I think I read it in the same accent as kingfisherblue14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.0
