LCS chasing re previous occupier

I bought a house in 2013 and phoned through a 1st reading (for gas and electricity) to EDF, which they accepted

They then have sent me a bill for the difference between the last reading of the previous owner/occupier and my 1st reading

I have refused to pay for this, pointing out to them that surely I can only be expected to pay from my 1st reading, which they had accepted

EDF claim that it is up to me to resolve any balance outstanding with previous owner/occupier and have sold my debt to LCS who are phoning and writing to me. So far I have ignored their phone calls and letters

A) Surely its up to EDF/LCS to chase any values prior to my 1st reading?

B) If the previous owner occupier gave a false reading or a reading from a week or so before they left then again surely the matter is between EDF and them?

LCS, on the right of this page, beneath a 'photo of the guys who run the forum, you'll see a box marked Forum Jump. Click on the list below, and you'll find Gas and Electricity about half way down.
If you post your query there, hopefully you'll get replies.

Good luck, I hope you can sort it out. :)
(Personally, I'd pass on the new address of the person responsible for this bill to the energy company - then switch to a more reasonable supplier, pdq ;)).

    ps. Welcome to MSE! :)
