KNOWHOW Multicare Insurance Cover

I've currently got the above insurance cover through currys which covers 3 items for £15 a month.
One of the items is my laptop. Last week I was at a friends house and we was sat outside of the balcony using the laptop as I got up I picked the laptop and it accidentally slipped out of my hands and went crashing all the way onto the ground from the second floor. There was pretty extensive damage to the laptop.
My policy covers for accidental damage so I sent this off to them last week. I have gave them a ring today to find out what is happening with it and they have told me the technician has referred this back to the coverplan team as there is signs of missus/negligence.
I've explained to them once again exactly how it happened as it fell from the 2nd floor that's the reason there is extensive damage to the laptop.
They have just told me to wait for the coverplan team to ring me and discuss this further.
If they do reject my claim is there anything I can do as it was genuinely an accident. How can they prove it wasn't an accidental and was negligence instead?
Thanks

If they reject the claim then you ultimately would need to take legal action to force them to accept your claim, (this "insurance cover" is cleverley designed by them to not be subject to any of the normal regulations for insurance policies, so for example, you cannot get the FOS to assist in getting them to honour the "policy")0
-
Assuming you are talking about their "care plan" then as the above, they have spent a lot of time and money to ensure it isnt insurance and thus you dont have the protection of the ombudsman.
If your documents say it is insurance then things may be different0 -
If they won't pay the claim and you have exhausted their complaints procedure, then check your home contents policy. If you have a personal possessions / belongings cover it would usually cover items such as a laptop away from home. There will normally be an excess fee so check this before you enquire to see if it worth claiming.
It would normally be cheaper to add your gadgets to your home insurance, either as specified items or under a general "away from home" cover which usually covers loss or damage. However this would not normally cover any mechanical breakdown or failure, wear & tear, etc and if you claim it will affect your home policy price at renewal. So you could bear this in mind for the future.
As regards to your current claim with Currys - if they reject this I would ask to see their report and you can ask for the laptop back to get an independent report. Whether it's worth doing this for the cost of the laptop is up to you.0 -

They will be checking the hard drive to see if when you said you used it last tallies with what the hard drive says0 -
the hard drive is likely to of been shockedDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thanks for your help so far guys.
They phoned me up today to come and collect my laptop from the pcworld store and they will not be fixing it.
Along with the laptop they gave me a very vaguely written bog standard letter that reads are follow:
"We have carried out an inspection and in the opinion of our engineer the damage seen is inconsistent with the reported explanation and/or the damage exceeds what we would expect given the circumstances. As a result of our findings the repairs are not covered by your agreement and your product will not be repaired."
They have given me an address where I have to put in writing if I want to challenge their decision.
Please help guys as I'm not very good at letter writing how do I prove and explain this was genuinely accidental damage.
Thanks0 -

They can still read the data on the platters. Not something they can do in the office. But it can be done.
Ive messed with old hard drives and you can swap platters from one another and they worked well enough to test.
Whether you could read and write data reliably is a different matter. But they will have the tools to do it.
The issue is it may cost them as much as your claim. Unless they have a team who can do it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
