job ends friday- do i start benefit claim then, or next day

worried re xmas wind down, any claim may not even get seen til new year..
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)

    you can make a claim online but till the job has ended. You will get a letter stating when your appointment is at the JC but yes could be after Xmas

  • I wouldn't worry too much, there's still a good 10/11 days until the Christmas shut down. I would think next week will still work the same. On Saturday morning go online and make the claim, keep yourself free on Monday and your mobile handy (I made a claim on the Sunday and received a text on Monday for an appointment at 3pm the same day.) You'll then be asked to come back later in the week, I would imagine your second sign on date would be 1/1/14, so it will be done automatically.

    It normally takes about 3 weeks to process (too mine 6 weeks because of a WTC roll-on!), which might take a bit longer for the Christmas shut-down.

    claim now down, asked for info i didnt have at the time anyway!

    UPDATE- first JSA 'verification' appoitment due tomorrow (17th).

    Have done housing benefit claim too, though hope wont need either as had two interviews in pst week..
