Driveway wrecked, can I claim compensation?

Hello all, I live in council rented accomodation and the villiage I'm in is having mains sewerage installed. Today I've come home from work to find my gravel drive is wrecked. My partner has been home today and witnessed large machinary on our drive digging up areas of the road and path. Where the tracked vehicles have been on the drive, it's broken the drive edging, churned up all the gravel and torn apart the membrane underneath. I did this drive myself and an really angry.
Just looking at some help and advice at how to go furher. The workmen have stated not their problem as they need access.
Thanks in advance!

Rented accomodation, it's not your drive, so I think you'd have trouble claiming for it.Happy chappy0

The drive is my creation using my materials, its the land thats not mine. I'll contact the council and see what there take on it is. Must be a problem they've come across before. Thanks0

Did you ask their permission to gravel the drive as the council may claim as it's their land they are only bound to restore it to as it was originally. The workmen were in all likelyhood given permission by the local council to use the machinery on council land if needed for access for essential works. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
