Win the Stax artists back catalogue, including Oris Redding, Isaac Hayes and Eddie Floyd!
In 1957 a Memphis-based bank clerk named Jim Stewart and his sister Estelle launched what would become one of the most important record labels in the history of soul music. Fifty years on, the foundation of the Stax record label is being celebrated with Sweet Soul Music, a 2CD definitive collection of Stax hits released on May 28th.
Sweet Soul Music features hits from the Memphis label’s heyday of the 1960s and ‘70s, including the many legendary artists who jointly created the “Stax sound,” among them Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, Booker T & the MGs, Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie Taylor, Eddie Floyd, Jean Knight, and The Emotions. The album also includes the title track by Arthur Conley.
The album has added significance as it marks exactly 40 years since the first ever Stax / Atlantic UK Tour, where British music fans saw - for the first time – the astonishing live power of Sam & Dave, Booker T & The MGs, Carla Thomas and the great Otis Redding. This double celebration is also being marked in the UK with a major new show that has been touring the UK since February 2007 with phenomenal success, also titled Sweet Soul Music. To be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize, just answer the question below…
