Well, since saying I'd manage to save £1,000 this year, thus far I have managed a grand total of absolutely nothing and am actually further in debt than when the year started. So much for 2014 becoming the year I finally became financially solvent.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

I will work out my Feb total and update tomorrow. But I've had a REALLY bad start to March... Had to go up to London yesterday... Really long day and I was shattered. Accidentally fell asleep on the train home... Missed my stop (and the next few!)! Also had JUST missed the last train back home. My phone battery had died too. Had to fork out £60 for a taxi home!!! So annoyed with myself.

Very grateful though to the lovely guard though who arranged a taxi for me and got me a good deal (it would normally have been a lot more). He also let me wait with him in his little office and put me safely in the taxi.

    Feel like a numpty!

  • After a not so good January, I'm declaring £1,135.06 for February, which I'm extremely pleased with :D. Just hoping I can continue the momentum going forward.

  • I'm thinking. I am using an easy-access savings account for these savings. It only pays 1% interest but as a full time student (ie some current accounts with better interest out of my reach) saving for the first time (wasn't sure how well I'd do) I only thought about a convenient way to put money aside rather than the best interest rate.

As I have a lot of money in my student account (I get all my loans/grants at the same time), would it make sense to transfer a lot more to the savings account (so I'm making at least some interest on it) and sort of "pay" myself monthly into my student current account? I would only count as savings the money that I intend to leave in the savings account, but at least I'd be earning some interest on all of my money, is this how it works?

I know, no "newbie alert" under my username anymore, but I am still a newbie :o

    #122 declaring £1000 for Feb.

Sorry I'm late. I saved a bit less than I'd hoped last month :o. I don't think I'll make it up this month though as I have family birthdays and a host of other things coming up. We shall see what happens though!

Well done to everyone and thank you slowlyfading for the updates (and sorry mine is late).

    Have a great weekend :).
