  • Count me in £12,000 please!

As mentioned on the 2013 thread we have sold our house and are mving back into my other house whilst we search for the mintedmatty family home! Obviously during this period our outgoings will be considerably less so really hoping to get 2014 off to a flying start!

  • Hi could you put me down for £5000 for 2014

I :heart2: my spreadsheet! It keeps me firmly on track. I used to be afraid of them...silly I know, but I looked on wikihow, found out how to do a simple spreadsheet and now update it all the time LOL :o

Me too Cydney! Being able to projecting forward the effects of spending and saving, and to link various sheets for different pots of savings makes it it seem so much more real and immediate than just vaguely chucking money into an account.

A spreadsheet has been a huge help in overpaying my mortgage too - it is quite addictive when you see the effects over 25 years.

I was waiting for this thread: Sign me up!! :D

12k- though DH and me are looking to replace our kitchen @ 7K and bathroom @ 3/4K so if we finish early we might just spend it on that... Not sure if we'd fail the challenge? Or can I put in a loophole that if we spend the savings on kitchen + bathroom it sill counts?

Either way I am looking forward to a year of saving

There aren't hard rules, so you can't really 'fail' the challenge - if a new kitchen/bathroom is a goal for you then go for it!

Personally I don't count money that I plan to spend, for me savings are rainy-day money while planned spending goes elsewhere in the budget, but that's just my take. Saving up for a kitchen/bathroom and paying cash is definitely a win too :)
  • Please can I join in? I am still paying off a bit of debt but it should be gone by July hopefully. My aim is £2000 which is small compared to alot of yours but it would get our house ready for sale in 2015. Hopefully I can do it before December then we can start on our deposit/equity.

  • Okay I have about 13k in debt but will try for 12k next year. I fully intend to try and save as much as possible so that the loan that I'm paying will be able to be paid earlier than in 3 years! Let's do this, sign me up please!
