Charity Finance....

Looks to me the Chief exec wants someone(independant) to come in and have close look at the books and opperation.

Boss and you have been running the place( and finances?) for too long maybe got a bit complacent, the place is struggling you say.

As marybell says might be time for a big shakeup if the charity is stuggling(no pay rises) then something needs to happen.

I would be getting my CV upto date.


I would also do a bit of digging into the background and history of this new person, that will likely clear up why they are here as an interim.

I would also be upset in your position. I don't think I'd say anything, instead I would start job hunting.
