Hi All,
Simple Question,
Can i use a p87 form to claim for,
tax relief on vehicle mileage,
when using my own car,
when used in connection with a registered charity,
where i am employed on a voluntary basis,
where i pay in full for the fuel cost myself,
Any ideas?
Thanks,

And if you are not paid, then there is no tax due on those earnings, so no tax can be reclaimed.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
My Apologies,
Not a great choice of words on my part. i am an "unpaid volunteer".
But i also have a paid full time job also, and pay tax accordingly.
The question is basically can one claim tax relief for expenses incurred on behalf of a charity?0 -
I don't think so.
Does the charity not pay you any expenses? that seems shortsighted on their part ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

in simple terms you do not have a contract of employment with the charity and so are not an employee therefore not eligible for mileage allowance. Also any tax reclaimed must relate to that employment, which in your case, is unpaid.
This is why, for example, police special constables (unpaid) cannot claim for washing their uniform but their full time (paid) colleagues can despite the fact specials (usually) also have "normal" jobs and pay tax in those other jobs0 -
