Redundancy - rights if offered another job?

I have been informed that as of the end of september I will be redundant. I know that some staff members 'may be offered work in another branch' - if this happens I'd like to know where I stand with regards to redundancy pay etc.

ie if I were offered a job in the nearest branch, my travel costs would be somewhere in the region of £50 a week. Considering my monthly pay is £800 after tax, that's approx 1/4 of my wages straight away. I would also have to leave home at 7am, getting home at about 8pm, a 13 hr day for minimum wage!

In my work handbook it states that colleagues 'may occassionally be required to work in other branches'.

So my question is - would they be allowed to essentially force me to work in another branch or forfeit redundancy pay? and/or have the only other option as voluntary redundancy leaving me unable to claim jobseekers if needed?

I think it is not classed as voluntary redundancy if the alternative offered doesn't suit. It is only voluntary if the group is offered redundancy, and out of that group you volunteer. Therefore JSA etc should be safe, but hopefully you would get another job quickly.

Being permanently assigned to another branch is not "occasional" so your contract does not appear to allow permanent reassignment.
