Doctor Who calendar - there are a few as they have a special 50th anniversary one as well as the normal one, both priced around £8-£9
There are also lots of good books for fans, my daughter had this one

I could go on but that's probably enough for now
Pokemon is a bit harder as the only 'new' item out is the 3DS game but there is a calendar around £10 on amazon0 -
Pokemon has membership cards - just seen it when I was looking for Club Penguin card. Don't know how good their games for members though. My kids never liked pokemon.
As for Doctor Who, - they kind of grow out of it, but it might be return when the certain age hits. The best thing I've got (toys played longest) was small figurines, but it was like a card game with all those numbers like power and strength in the bottom. But you could play with it as with regular tin soldiers if you want. I wish they would sell it again... Another thing - they still have similar stuff - it's mini lego like (I think it's megablooks) figurines. You could get separate ones, best - 1/£1, normal - 1/£2 each, or different sets. Sometime there is something like a Tardis + figurines sets. But again, it depends on how kids are playing. Mine like to use figurines and replay episodes from the series, especially when they are watching...0
