Removing Dog/Pet Odour from House

I am a professional carpet cleaner (I took this up 8 years ago be cause of our dog and dog urine!)
Unless it was a very small dog the carpet and underlay will have been soaked through, and on its own a clean from the top will not always remove all the urine.
If you are going to rip up and replace then treat the floor before relaying carpet, as mentioned above a liberal dose of Prochem Urine Neutraliser will do the trick. There are many prochem stockists in the uk so google.
I cannot without inspection comment on the work of others but the Solutions I use continue to work after cleaning to break down residual urine so in time there would be no smell, but in view of your chosen path I will not elaborate further.0 -
Just a question - is the 'concrete floor' a sealed one?
When I managed a Sheltered Housing Scheme, we had an issue where a incontinent tenant had moved out to a Nursing Home.
The carpets and underlay were all ripped up and disposed of, but the concrete floors were 'unsealed; the odour was a beggar to get rid of.0 -
Hi all,
Well I have ripped the carpet up to find patches of urine stains on the foam underlay. Both now removed from house inc some parts of gripper that also smelt.
Floor has been brushed and I mop using stardrops disinfec product as well as washing down skirting and walls with same product.
Going to let to dry for few a day and see how it smells.
I would like to use the prochem stuff but funds are low at the min so need the best option which is cheapest for me. How well does vinegar or biological stuff work and should it be mixed with water
Not sure if concrete floor is sealed or not but have just drop some water on it as a test.

We have just bought a house, where I think a dog was in a bedroom practically 24/7.
The carpet was "indescribable" -can't use another word for it.
That went in the skip, I scrapped the rubber backing off the floor with a mask on!
We have floor boards-which is slightly different, after the floor was completely clean of bits, I found on-line someone had used a "gloop" of cheap bio washing powder & hot water. Bought the cheapest powder I could find, and made a paste, pasted the floorboards, and left on there for about 5 days.
I then mopped the floor just with boiling water, about 4 times, and to top it off because I still had the smell in my mind even though others said there was no smell, I bleached with neat bleach (and rubber gloves) on my hands & knees with micro fibre cloth-scrubbing each floor board.
Left the window slightly open for a few days, the smell has really gone now.
A lot of people said we would have to change the floor boards-so in all it was a good cheap way of getting rid of doggie dodo -with hard graft.
Cost about £2 and time:beer::j0 -

£5.25 for a 1 litre spray bottle at my suppliers!!.0 -
Would this work better than using Bio Powerder and is it ok to use on concrete, wood work etc and walls.
I cannot seem to find it that cheap?

Sorry, £5.25 = VAT!
Cannot speak for "Bio Powerder", but I know the prochem stuff works!0 -
Would the 1L Spray cover a whole room floor and as its a spray would it soak in compare to the liquid form

1 litre should be enough for a small house!
When the spray hits the floor it is a liquid, all the spray nozzle foes is break it up into tiny droplets to get thorough coverage.0 -
I'm of the opinion that most doggy odours are absorbed into the carpet and its not that easy to chuck your carpet in the washer.
I keep my odours at bay by regularly washing my carpets and weather permitting, my dogs but I have to expect a certain amount of whiff as I have had to toilet train two puppies and its probably gone down to the underlay at some point.
I'd much prefer a Karndean type flooring myself.
