Contrarian approach to job hunting - blog!

In 2012/13, a group of old school decorators have been generating fantastic professional opportunities in difficult economic times, not by cold calling, not by sending out CVs - by blogging! We write up case studies of what we do at work, basically giving away our trade secrets, and publish them on an appropriate website read by people with an interest in the sort of decorating we do. We also do reviews of new products, or recount work we have done in the past. If you are passionate about a topic, there is no shortage of content to write about!

A series of blogs shows readers a lot about the thought and effort and skill that goes into the jobs we do, and over time, readers pick up a good idea about us, how we think, how we work, what we know. Readers ask questions, we answer them. New opportunities arise daily.

Extend that blog approach to job hunting.

If you have a passion for the job you are after, and aren't getting anywhere via normal channels, think about blogging! You would presumably have some experience or researched your chosen profession. If so, start putting together articles of interest, demonstrating what you know, or what you look forward to learning and perfecting. If you want a creative job, what better medium than an article with photos, or do a video blog, just be creative and consistent, and send your articles to suitable sites, and send prospective employers to read your blogs on those sites.

If it works for old world painters, it isn't a whacky theory, and blogging could work to get your next career underway.
It is no fun getting part way through the decorating and you don't know the next step.
