    Has he asked the agency?

  • Sounds like he is at the 12 week point where he should get the same terms as normal employees....so they hire other people instead.

Are the new people from the agency? If they are directly employed they are probably cheaper.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Yes its the old 12 week rule I'm affraid just as AWR (agency working rights) kick in you find shifts dry up and new faces begin to appear. This has happened at Royal Mail where all the usual year round casual staff are layed off and min wage "Christmas" Casual staff are recruited. It stinks!

Can't blame employers, the whole point of agency is for added flexibility and then you get forced to pay the same as normal employees....

    Need to repeal it

I work for another of the big four (in distribution, not in store).

They have a massive turnaround of agency staff. You see them coming for interviews and it makes you feel so sorry for them.

We all know they are only going to get a few weeks shifts and then passed over for the new lot.

Some of them turn up in hoodies and don't even look employable but its the ones that turn up all shirt and tie clutching a CV folder, looking really keen that you feel for most.

Its all about getting paid for the numbers they take off the dole queue.

The agencies also bring in dozens of eastern Europeans at a time because they also rent them houses so they are in effect working for the agency and also paying them rent. Its a win-win for the agencies.

I feel for them but I also know they will make the most of themselves over the ones who can't be arsed.

That's very true but its sad when you see someone who is maybe in his 40s or 50s being shown round alongside these scruffs.

You can see the optimism thinking they have found a job and they have no idea how they are going to be used and let go.
