Cancelled Mortgage Application

I applied for a mortgage with the Yorkshire BS - after sending in all my documents for processing and having a valuation carried out - I received a call from them about 2 weeks ago to say they have cancelled my application. When I asked for a reason the bloke on the phone said it was because they had reasons to believe I would not be residing at the property I am looking to buy, he said he could not tell me anymore and that was that. I asked if I would get a written response and he said I would. But all I have received from them is all my documentation back.
I feel like I have been ripped off as I paid them for the application. Surely I deserve a written explanation? I was looking to buy a property 100 miles away from where I currently live because I am starting a new job - I sent them a letter/contract from my new employer as well as signing there "declaration to reside" form.
I am so annoyed by this. Any advice from anyone as to what I could do other than write and complain to them?
Do banks/bs have to give reasons for their decisions?
Have they broke any rules in their handling of my case?
P.S. I have now obtained a mortgage from another lender - I sent them the exact same documents I sent the YBS - so really puzzled by this one.

Lenders can choose to whom they lend. There's no right to a mortgage.0
