I will be watching this closely as I too had/have problems with online gambling, my last bet being just a few short weeks ago. I am determined however to fight the demon and I can see that you are too. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I commend you for reading the whole post, I didn't realise how long I had made it ! Oops.

Skinnylatte - I don't have any therapy or support yet but in January I am seeing a specialist who is hopefully going to refer me for the appropriate counselling thereafter.

    Onward and upward guys!

Hey 1day, I'm sorry to hear about your problems. It's amazing that you managed to get savings of that level at all so don't put yourself down. Best of luck with your counselling.

Just as an aside, maybe it would be an idea to store the majority of your money in an account that is difficult to access? I have most of my money in accounts that I don't know the pins of and the additional action of inputting money into my spends account makes me think about the money I want to spend.

Good luck with getting debt free.

    Thank you!
Killer - I hope to do that as soon as I can get savings building again, I will put a plan in place so it become untouchable for me, so I can't do anything silly with it and it can grow quietly.

Oh, sorry, I meant that it might help to ensure you overpay your debts if you have to shift extra money into your spends account. I really must start re-reading before submitting. :rotfl:

Feeling awful today. Had my figures a bit wrong yesterday but have worked it all out properly. I owe almost £7k to my two loans combined, but this is with both credit cards fully paid off. It is yet to be seen if I will receive full pay for December or just SSP - but I have budgeted for either eventuality.

If I am paid full, I will receive about £1420 on 20/12 of which, £1100 can go to the debt. Then the same every month thereafter as I hope to be back at work in January. If this plan goes the way I hope, I can emerge from the debt after June's payday and from there on, begin saving again. In the meantime I have to put it to the back of my mind a little as I'm already in the depths of a major depressive episode, on strong medication and am withdrawing from the most serious addiction of my life.

On the plus side, I have paid for everything Christmas related so can enjoy that with family, and I have my health (more or less!) and many other blessings to count that are nothing to do with money. It's easy to lose sight of this but thinking of those things will help me through.

Let me bust this debt in 2014 and never make such catastrophic mistakes again!!!!!!

    Thanks for the support.
    Charlie.

Your story sounds a lot like mine,

Have worked hard all year and nothing to show for it accept 7k debt

Does anyone no if there's any type of bank accounts that
you can set a limit on

For instance cash withdrawals and online transactions
